Regina and Coleman Locke are the real brains behind Locke Red Brahmans.

Coleman is the firstborn of four children to Eleanor Hudgins and Leon L. Locke. According to Coleman, he was an extraordinarily bright child. As a very small child he would accompany his father around the ranch, and as he grew older could much of the time be found horseback helping the ranch crew work cattle.

Coleman graduated from Wharton High School in 1961 and Abilene Christian University in 1965. At that point he began to be involved full time with the family partnership, Locke Division of J.D. Hudgins.

Coleman met Regina Kay Gayle in 1970 and they were married the following year. Regina’s parents, John and Doris Gayle, lived and ranched in Brazoria County near West Columbia.

He was elected to the Texas Brahman Association Board of Directors in 1967 and served as President. He was elected to the American Brahman Breeders Association Board of Directors in 1982. He served as Committee Chairman numerous times, served on the Executive Committee for many years, and served as ABBA President from February 1999 until February 2001. As his father Leon had served in the same capacity in 1967-68, and Coleman became the first son of a former ABBA President to also hold that office, and is the first person to ever serve as ABBA President in two different centuries.

He served on the Board of Trustees of the Wharton Independent School District for fifteen years and was a Trustee for several years for the Texas Association of School Boards, headquartered in Austin.

For a number of years Regina was busy being a mother. By the time the four kids were in school most of her time was taken with school activities, PTA, band, sports, and FFA. She found time to serve two years as President of Wharton Little League Baseball, one year as President of Wharton Babe Ruth Ball, and take and active role in the Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters. She accompanied the local FFA chapter to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City several times.
Currently Regina is President of the Ladies of the ABBA. She enjoys traveling with Coleman to various Brahman and livestock events throughout the country, and tries to find time to travel to Washington and Colorado to visit with their children who live there. When she is at home she operates an embroidery business, specializing in personalized caps and shirts.

Coleman is an accomplished photographer, with several magazine covers to his credit. He plays tuba in two community bands and is currently tubist for the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra.

Coleman and Regina have always tried to put back a little more than they have taken from an organization, and as a result have been deeply involved with the many organizations that their family participated in. They both agree that the greatest part of being in the Brahman business is the many friends that they have made throughout the United States and the world.

Their experience with Gray Brahmans stretches over fifty years. While being relatively new to Red Brahmans, they are committed to breeding functional Red Brahmans that work in the real world of beef production, with total emphasis on quality and efficiency, and productivity.
